DECLARING CANVASS OF REdURND AND RESULT OF GENERAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION, HELD 0(3 1' 12 1957.
1177ET1A5, General Municipal Electlon Was held in the City of Alameda on
Tuesday, March 12, 1957, under and pursuant to the. provisions of Article Xii-X of the
Charter of said City, for the purpose of electing officers to fill the office of
Councilman, Auditor and Treasurer - and for the fdwther purpose. of submitting to the
qualified electors of said City the questions of amending the Cherter of the'City of
Alameda, as set forth hereinafter:
Thpeo (1) Councilmen on tha Council of said City for three (3)
full terms, each term commencing at 730 o'clock p.m, on the third
Tueseley in April, 1957, and continuing for four (5,) years thereafter,
and until a successor is elected end. Qualified;
One (1) Auditor of said City for a full term sommeneing at 7:30
o'clbck p.m. on the third Tuesday in Apr11, 1957, and continuing for
four (n) years thereafter, and until a successor is -elected end.

One (1) Treasurer of said City for a full term commencing at
7:3C o'clock p.m. on the third Tuesday in April, 1957, ana continuing
for four (4) years thereafter, and until a successor is elected and
qualified.
MEASURE A
Simla the Charter of the City of Alameda be amended. by repeaing.
in its entirety Suction 11-2 of Article Xi?
Said Section 11-2 which would be repealed in its entirety, pro-
vides that when, in the opinion of the Board. of 11' 't the esti-
mated income for support of schools is insuffibient for their proper
suonbrt, thu Board of Education s5 ad?. request from the City. of Alameda
pupil sums as are necessary to balance the budget of the Alameda School
Fund- The Council shall then include in its next suuceeding tax levy
the amount of such request; prbvided, however, by affirmative vote of
four members of the Council, the amount requested can be reduced to not
less than twenty cents on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.
MEASURE B
Shall thb Charter of the City of Alameda be ambndbd to provide for
the establishment of thu office, under thb jurisdiction of tho City
Manager, of City Planning Director, who shall be chief executive of the
City Planning Department, and Decretary to the City Planning Board, by
ambnding Section 2-3 of Article II and Section 7-12 of Article VII, by
adding Section 7-11.1 to Article VII, and by renualing Section 9-1 (f)
of Article IX thereof, all as fully set forth in nesolution No. 5524
of the Council of the City of Alameda?

manner prescribed by the Charter of said City, nominating for saio . offices the follpw-

WHEREAS, said nominations were 81 Lt'. in a list, with the offices to be
filled, which list was certified to and filed. in the time, form and manner required
by said Charter, whereupon an Eloction Proclamation, signed by the Mayor of the City.
of Alameda, and attested. by. the City. Clerk, and containing a statembnt of the (3 3" of
the election, the offices to be filled, the names of the candidates anb the measures
to be voted on, as the same were, by the Council of the City 11 Alambda, ordered to
be printed and apnear on 15 e ballot, was duly and regularly issued. more than ten (10)

days before said election and. was published twice in the official 17r of ;laid
City, t lmst publLcatiun thereof being mpre than fivc (5) days before the date of
said election; an
WHEREAS, there were 130 election precincts 1 7)h177 the City of Alameda fixed
and established by resolution of the Council of said City and designated. and num-
bered consecutively from No. 1 to No. 130, inclusive - as the election precincts for
holding the aforesaid General Municipal Election of the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, all of the ballots used for said election were prepared, as to
form. and contents, as prescribed by law, and a sample ballot was mailed to each voter
of the City of Alarbdu wTthin the time and in the manner provided by law and such
mailing was completed at least ten (10) whole dmys preceding the date (17 said elect-
ion; end
WHEREAS, the officers of election for saib. election were duly appointed. and.
gualified, and all election supplles furnished and election booths provided for each
precinct as provided. 17 lam; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Alameda. at this, its next regular meet-
ing following said election, hag mgt and fully 171 the returns of the votes cast
at said. Ggneral Municipal Eaectic n as required by law, and being fully advised. in the
premises, and hatlng the returns of said canvass before it;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND DECLARED EY THE
COUNCIL OF THE CIT. LAMEDA. and said Council finds, as fyilows:
(1) That said General Municipal Eaectiph was held and. conducted, and the
votes cast thhreat received and canvassed, and the returns thereof ascertained, deter-
mined and. declared, in all respects and particulars in the time, form and manner pro-
vided by law.
(2) That the number of votes given at sacb precinct to each of the afore-
said candldates and propositions was as follows:
