RESOLUTIOB OF THE COUNCIL OF TUE CITY GT ALAMEDA IN OPPOSITION
TO THE ENACTMENT BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE. OF CALIFORNIA
OF ASSEMBLY BILIS 998 AND 999 RELATING TO TEE VENEING CT GAS
APPLIANCES AND NsfEECTIVITT (IF PORTIONE OF STAEE HOUSING ACT.
WHEREAS, AB 998 would amend the Health anb. Safety Code of the State of
California. so as to allow nmyented gee burning heaters in buillAihgg whmre such
exigted prior to September 22, 1951; and
WhEREAS, AB 999 would amend the Health anJ. Safety Code of the &tete of
CalilUrnia so L5 to remove any requirement of replacing an existing gas burning.
appliance if shun replacement would require a structural addition, alteration or
change not required. prior to SeptemBer 22, 1951, and. could. pousibly have the result
of further amending such Code to the end that no provision. of the State Housing Act
would be construed so as to require a structural andition, alteration or change in.
Or on an exEstimg building; and
WHEREAS, the enactment of AB 998 and AB 999 would allow situations to
exist which wouib be a. great menace to the health and safety of the. peable of the
City of Alameda;
HGW, THEREFORE, SF IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY CE ALAMBTA that
said Council urges and requests that AD 998 and AB 999 be not enacted.
BE IT FUMTNER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Alameda. is
hereby- directed to transmit certified copies of this resolution to the representae
times of the City of Alameda in the Legislature of the State of' California. and to
the Assembly Committee on Public Health.
