RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
CALIFORNIA ACCEPTING $161,368 FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF
HOMELAND SECURITY’S ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTER GRANT
PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR EMERGENCY
MEDICAL SERVICES TRAINING AND THE WELLNESS FITNESS
PROGRAM, APPROPRIATING $40,341 FROM THE GENERAL FUND TO
MEET THE MATCHING FUNDS REQUIREMENT AND APPROPRIATE THE
GRANT FUNDS AND MATCHING FUNDS TOTALING $201,709 FOR SAID
PURPOSE
WHEREAS, The Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency
Management Agency’s (FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate is responsible for the
implementation and administration of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG)
Program; and
WHEREAS, on March 22, 2013, the City of Alameda Fire Department, was
approved for an Assistance to Firefighter Grant in the amount of $161,368 to
purchase equipment for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training and the
Wellness Fitness Program; and
WHEREAS, the AFG is an 80/20 matching grant program, whereby the
Department of Homeland Security awards 80% of the total requested amount and the
City must provide a match of 20% of the grant award; and
WHEREAS, in order to accept the $161,368 AFG grant, the City Council must
appropriate $40, 341;
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that:
1. The City of Alameda accepts FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighter Grant in the
amount of $161,368; and
2. An Appropriation of $201,709 consisting of $161,368 in grant funding plus
a matching appropriation of $40,341 from the City’s General Fund for the
Purchase of equipment for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training and
the Wellness Fitness Program is Hereby Authorized; and
3. The City Manager, or his designee, shall negotiate and execute all
agreements necessary for the implementation of this resolution.

I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular
meeting assembled on the 7th day of May, 2013, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Chen, Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Tam and
Mayor Gilmore – 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
