Resolution 14879CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 14879 UPHOLDING TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION’S DECISIONS OF OCTOBER 23, 2013 REGARDING IMPROVEMENTS TO SAN JOSE AVENUE AT REGENT STREET WHEREAS, on April 29, 2013, a resident appealed the decision of Public Works staff to not install an all-way stop at the intersection of San Jose Avenue and Regent Street; and WHEREAS, on October 23, 2013, the Transportation Commission (TC) heard the appeal and approved staff’s recommendations to: 1. Deny the appeal (of Public Works Staff’s dec ision to not install an all-way stop control). 2. Prohibit the parking of vehicles taller than six feet in height for the first two parking spaces at each corner of San Jose Avenue at Regent Street (affecting eight spaces total). 3. (In addition to recommendation #2) remove one parking space on the southeast corner of San Jose Avenue at Regent Street. 4. Selectively enforce speeding. Additionally, the TC approved two amendments: 1. To actively solicit residents to participate in the Neighborhood Speed Watch program. 2. To add “Cross Traffic Does Not Stop” signs, in both directions, on Regent Street. WHEREAS, on November 4, 2013, a resident appealed the decision of the TC; and WHEREAS, in summary, Alameda Municipal Code §8-2.2 states: “The Public Works Director shall designate and establish stop intersections within the City based on warrant systems established by the State and/or locally established transportation standards.” And staff reviewed the State’s and City’s warrants and found that the intersection did not meet them; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this project is Categorically Exempt under the California Environmental Quality ACT Guidelines Section 15301 (c) Existing Facilities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City Council of the City of Alameda hereby upholds the TC’s decisions on October 23, 2013, regarding improvements to San Jose Avenue at Regent Street. NOTICE.
