HELD FRIDAY MORNING MAY 27, 1966
The meeting convened at 8:30 o'clock a.m. with President Godfrey presiding.
ROLL CALL:
Councilmen Bartley, La Croix, Jr., McCall, Rose and President Godfrey, (5), were noted present.
Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS:
l'i Receipt of the Notice and Agenda of this special meeting had been acknowledged by each of the
Councilmen and was on file. The purpose of said meeting was to give consideration to certain con-
tracts relating to the reconstruction project at the Municipal Golf Course and take action thereon,
if so desired. Also, to consider some action to relieve a problem in connection with the project of
widening Atlantic Avenue.
RESOLUTIONS:
2:" Councilman Rose reviewed the situation - then introduced the following resolution and moved its
adoption:
"Resolution No. 6960
Authorizing Execution of Agreement with Charles W. Jenkins for Services
in Final Grading and Shaping of Reconstructed Municipal Golf Course."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Bartley and carried on the following
roll call vote. Ayes: Five. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Councilman La Croix introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 6961
Adopting Specifications for Furnishing to the City of Alameda One (1) New,
Latest Model, Diesel Tractor with Loader Bucket for the Golf Department,
Calling for Bids and Directing City Clerk to Advertise Same."
The motion to adopt said resolution was seconded by Councilman Bartley and carried on the following
roll call vote. Ayes: Five. Noes: None. Absent: None.
The President declared the foregoing resolutions adopted.
4, this time, President Godfrey and City Engineer Hanna explained the circumstances with regard
to the contemplated acquisition of an easement from the Southern Pacific Company relating to the
City's project of widening Atlantic Avenue.
In order to expedite the work on said project, it was pointed out that Southern Pacific Company would
accept a letter of intent from the City Council, pending the formal action of passing an ordinance
to authorize the necessary purchase of the required easement.
This was agreeable to the Councilmen and the President was to write such a letter to the Southern
Pacific Company - and the ordinance in question would definitely be on the agenda at the next regular
Council meeting.
5. At this point, it was announced that Mr. Wayne Kint, Oakland Tribune Reporter, who had covered
City Hall, City Council meetings and the City of Alameda for the past several years, had just been
employed by "The Sacramento Union". This would be his last Council meeting, although he would still
be in City Hall for one more week.
President Godfrey extended congratulations to Mr. Kint and stated he would like to write a letter
of commendation for him on behalf of the City Council. Mr. Kint responded with an expression of
appreciation for the pleasant associations he had enjoyed with the Councilmen and Staff of the City
of Alameda.
6.\I President Godfrey then regretfully informed the Council of the passing the night before of Mr.
Elmer E. Tilton, one of the City's pioneer businessmen.
The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of condolence to Mr. Tilton's family on behalf of the
City Council. The President asked all to stand for a moment of silence in observance of the death
of Mr. Tilton.

8. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Council adjourned in respect to
the memory of Mr. Elmer E. Tilton.
