1963-07-02 Special CC MinutesSPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY MORNING, JULY 2, 1963
The meeting convened at 10:00 o'clock a.m. with President Godfrey presiding.
ROLL CALL:
The roll was called and Councilmen Freeman, La Croix, Jr., McCall, Rose and President Godfrey,
(5), were noted present. Absent: None.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Receipt of the Notice and Agenda for this special meeting had been acknowledged by each of the
Councilmen and was on file. The purpose of the meeting was for a discussion of personnel matters
and to take action thereon if so desired.
The Clerk broached the subject of the Council establishing a policy with regard to the type of ack-
nowledgement of service to render to those persons who had served the City as members of its various
Boards, Commissions, Agencies or Committees at the time of their completion of terms or resignations
therefrom.
It was pointed up that the automatic adoption of a resolution in appreciation or commendation of
service became meaningless if such actions were to be taken indiscriminately.
Following some discussion, it was agreed that the City Manager would contact the Alameda Chamber of
Commerce to have a standard type of certificate prepared in acknowledgement of services rendered to
the community and the Council policy would be to tender this to the persons concerned. Also, the
Mayor would write a letter of appreciation to the individuals in official recognition of their
contribution of time and effort on behalf of the City.
2. Councilman Freeman then moved the Council go into an executive session for its deliberation on
prospective appointees to several City agencies. The motion was seconded by Councilman La Croix
and unanimously carried.
After considerable discussion,on these matters, Councilman La Croix moved the Council adjourn to
an adjourned special meeting to be held later this date, at 4:00 o'clock p.m. The motion was
seconded by Councilman McCall and unanimously carried.
ADJOURNMENT:
3. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Council adjourned - to assemble
in adjourned special meeting at 4:00 o'clock this afternoon.
