HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JUNE 21st, 1938
The meeting convened at 8 o►clock_P.M. with President Weichhart presiding.
The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and Pres-
ident Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.

1. The minutes of the regular meeting of June 7th, 1938, were approved as transcribed.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
/2. From the California Veterans' Welfare Board, requesting cancellation of certain
taxes now appearing as a lien against property owned by the Board in the City of Alameda.
The communication was referred to the City Attorney.
OPENING OF BIDS
v3. Proposals were received from the following auditors for auditing the books and
accounts of the City for the fiscal year ending June 3Oth, 1939:

Councilman Morris moved that the proposals be referred to the Committee of the Whole
for further consideration, seconded by Councilman Godfrey and on roll call carried by
the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
.'4. The City Manager submitted the summary of activities of the City for the month of
May, 1938. The report was ordered filed.
15. From the City Manager, accompanied by a certificate of the City Engineer that the
Wickwir_oSpencer Steel Company had completed the construction of chain link fence at
McKinley Park, and recommending that the work be accepted. Councilman Godfrey moved
that the recommendation be adopted and that the work be accepted, seconded by Councilman
Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington,
Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5): Noes: None. Absent: None.
A. From the City Planning Board, recommending the reclassification of the property
bounded by Versailles Avenue and High Street, Fernside Boulevard and the U. S. Tidal
Canal as indicated in the resolution of intention to reclassify this property on its
own motion, passed by the Council at its regular meeting of June 7, 1938. Councilman
Morris moved that the recommendation be adopted,seconded by Councilman Carrington
and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey,
Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
/Judge E. J. Silver, representing the owners of the above property, addressed the
Council in reference to approval of the final map of the proposed North Fernside
Tract. Councilman Morris moved that the map be referred to the City Engineer and
the City Attorney, seconded by Councilman Carrington &id on roll call carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
/7. From the City Planning Board, recommending that the request for a temporary
revocable permit to use the property known as 1726 Wood Street for the purpose of
storing citrus fruits, be denied. Councilman Morris moved that the recommendation
be adopted, seconded by Councilman Carrington and on roll call carried bythe
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
At this time Mr. Turner, father of the applicant, addressed the Council in reference
to parking trucks containing a quantity of citrus fruits upon the property over
night and was referred to the City Attorney.
/8. From the City Planning Board recommending that the property known as 1511
Central Avenue be reclassified from Residential District, Class I, to Residential
District, Class 1 3/4, for the purpose of remodeling into flats. Councilman
Carrington moved that the recommendation be adopted, seconded by Councilman Maurer
and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey,
Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
/9. From the City Planning Board,recommending the reclassification of 1223 High
Street,from Residential District, Class I, to Residential District, Class 1 3/4,
for the purpose of converting into flats. Councilman Carrington moved that the
recommendation be adopted, seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and
President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.

'10. From the Mayor, referring to suggestions formulated at a meeting of the Committee
of the Whole of the Council held on Tuesday evening, June 14th, in reference to report
of Lester S. Ready on the merchandising policy of the Board, and submitting for approv-
al a letter addressed to the Board in reference to this subject. Councilman Morris moved
that the letter be approved and a copy be sent to the Board, seconded by Councilman
Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, God-
frey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
At this time Councilman Morris notified the Council that he had been informed by the City
, Manager that the inventory of the Department of Electricity as per June lst,1938, showed
ranges on hand valued at 41035.00 and water heaters valued at 463.2.19, and requested
these figures be inserted in the minutes.

/12. Mrs. Epstein addressed the Council and requested permission to submit a petition
signed by twenty -six beauty shop owners of Alameda, protesting against the establishment
of a vocational beauty school in this City. The petition was referred to the Committee
of the Whole.

13. Councilman Godfrey introduced and moved the adoption of

ments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council:

Park Department, $802.02; Golf Course Department, $419.58; Store Department, $189.28;
Social Service Department, $64.16; Initiative_ Relief Fund, $80.00; Street Improvement

Councilman Maurer moved, seconded by Councilman Morris, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized on the List of Claims filed
with the City Clerk on June 21st,1938, and presented to the Council at this meeting
be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and. President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
21. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in
adjourned regular session on June 28th, 1938, at 8 o'clock P.M.
