REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 5th,, . . . . . . . 1938
he meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with President Weichhart presiding.
The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
MINUTES•
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 21,1938, and of the adjourned regular
meeting of June 28, 1938, were approved as transcribed.
WRITTEN COI4'MICATIONS
1. A communication was presented from Wm. R. Calcutt, suggesting that the Council call
a meeting to discuss the replacement of the Fruitvale Bridge. The communication was
referred to the City Manager.
ti''2. From FrankA. Gottstein, in reference to planning planting of shrubs and plants along
Webster Street and alleged backing up of sewerage at high tides. The communication was
ordered filed.

3. Frank A. Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to raising of Webster Street.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES:
,(4. From Jordan & Ticoulet, informing the Council that they have made an examination
of the records and accounts of the Bureau of Electricity for the month of May, 1938, and
find that the books have been kept upon the basis prescribed by the regulations and
schedules prepared by the California Railroad Commission. The report was ordered filed.
ORDINANCE FOR INTRODUCTION:
5. Councilman Morris introduced the following ordinance, and it was laid over under
provision of law and the Charter:
"Ordinance No. New Series
Consenting to the Establishment of Portion of High Street as
Part of the System of Highways of Alameda County ",
NEW BUSINESS:
/6. Councilman Morris moved that in accordance with Section 3 -7(c) of the City Charter,
the contract be renewed with Jordan & Ticoulet, for the accounting work for the City
for the fiscal year beginning July lst,1938, on the same basis as last year, and request-
ed that mention be made in the minutes that the payroll of the Bureau of Electricity
for the coming fiscal year, as provided for in the Bureau's budget, shows an increase
of $43,441.57, or 48 per cent over the payroll for the fiscal year beginning July
lst,1935. The motion was seconded by Councilman Godfrey and on roll call carried by
the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
RESOLUTIONS:
7. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2271
Transferring $1045.86 from the Relief Fund to the General
Fund ",
Councilman Carrington seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart,(5). Noesw:
None. Absent: None.
8. Councilman Carrington introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2272
Transferring $1000 from the General Fund to the Relief Fund ",
Councilman Maurer seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
9. Councilman Maurer introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2273
Resolution of Acceptance and Consent to
Recordation ",
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and. President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.

FILING:
10. Affidavit of City Manager and Chief of Police, re Police Secret Fund.
11. Auditor's Balance Sheet, as of June 30, 1938.
12. Resolution No. 32563, of Board of Supervisors, re portion of High Street
(approach to High Street Bridge) to be taken over as a County Highway.
BILLS:
13. An itemized l'st of claims against the City of Alameda and the several depart -
ments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council:
General Departments, $5573.64; Police Department, $328.87; Pound Department, $1.24;
Fire Department, $44.93;Street Department, $1065.28; Health Department, $233.57;
Golf Course Department, $200.87; Park Department, $188.93; Store Department, $355.56;
Social Service Department, $201.00; Initiative. Relief Fund, $48.00; Street Improvement
Fund, $9.40.
Councilman Godfrey moved, seconded by Councilman Morris, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized on July 5th, 1938, and filed
with the City Clerk on that date, and presented to the Council at this meeting , be
allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer,. Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
14. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet
regular session on Tuesday evening, July 19th, 1938, at 8 o'clock P.M.
