1939-02-14 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF TUE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 14th . . 1939 The meeting convened at 8 otclock P.m. with President Weichhart presiding. The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None. 1. After a general discussion by all the members of the Council, and the Council had been addressed by Captain Brown and J. G. Johnson, Councilman Godfrey introduced and moved the adoption of Resolution No. 2331 Submitting to the Electors of the City of Alameda an Ordinance entitled: "An Ordinance Granting and Conveying to the United States of America, for Public Purposes, and for a Nominal Consideration of One Dollar, All the Right, Title and Interest of the City of Alameda in and to Certain Tide and Submerged Lands Situated on Government Island in Brooklyn Basin, Sometimes Known and Designated as the Estuary of San Antonio; Saving and Reserving to said. City Certain Easements and Rights of Way Therein and Authorizing the Execution of a Deed of Grant Conveying Said Lands", to be Votedupon at the General Municipal Election to be Held in Said City on. Tuesday, March 14, 1939; and Prescribing the Statement of the Proposition for the Adopting of. Said Ordinance as the Same Shall Appear on the Ballot, seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carri.ed by the folloving vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, and President Welchhart, (4). Noes: Councilman Morris, (1). Absent: None. /2. Councilman Carrington moved that the Council request the Post Office Department to have all mail now delivered to and received from Government Island routed through the Alameda Post Office, instead of the Fruitvale Branch of the Oakland Post Office as at present, seconded by Councilman Maurer and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Morris requested the Council proceed under"New Business", and referred to a proposed Bill to be introduced in the State Legislature permitting establishments dispensing liquor to remain open until four o'clock A.M., and requested that the City Attorney prepare a resolution protesting against the extension of time to that hour, to be submitted to the Council. RESOLUTIONS: 4. Councilman Maurer introduced and moved the adoption of Resolution No. 2332 Appointing Member of the Retireant Board of the City of Alameda, Councilman Carrington seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. 5. Councilman Carrington introduced and moved the adoption of Resolution No. 2333 Appointing Member of the Retirement Board of the City of Alameda, Cotncilman Maurer seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. ORDINANCES PASSED: 6. "Ordinance No. 678, New Series RECLASSIFYING PROPERTY (Property Known as, 1234 Versailles Avenue)", Councilman Carrington moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Council- man Maurer, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. 7. "Ordinance No. 679, New Series RECLASSIFYINq PROPERTY Portions. of Tract.526i, Alameda, Alameda County, California, and of Fernside Tract", Councilman Maurer moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Councilman Carrington and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None. "Ordinance No. 680,N.S. Amending Subsections (4) and (12) of Section 17-431 of the Alameda Municipal Code", 8. Councilman Maurer moved that the ordinance as read, be adopted, seconded by Councilman Godfrey and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, God- frey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: Nona. 9. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular session on Tuesday evening, February 21, 1939, at 8 o'clock P.M.
