1934-03-06 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY EVENING MARCH 6,1934.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Bruzzone, Eschen, Morris and President Murray-,
(4) were noted present. Absent: None.
1.v On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris, and on roll call
unanimously carried, the regular order of business was suspended and the Council re-
verted to "New Business: Councilman Bruzzone moved the appointment of Mr. John Tiede-
mann to the vacancy existing in the Council. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Morris and on roll call it was carried unanimously. Mr. Tiedemann thereupon executed
his oath of office and took his seat as Councilman.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
3, Mr. Frank Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to laterals to the San
Francisco-Oakland. Bay Bridge.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
4.i From the City Manager, recommending that an ordinance be drawn licensing local
and outside businesses. The recommendation was referred to the City Manager and the
City Attorney to investigate and report back to the Council.
5./ From Uniformed Bodies Association of Alameda Post No. 9, American Legion Inc.,
offering its services to conduct a band concert on Easter Sunday, the first day of
April, 1934 at a place to be desigiated by the Council. On motion of Councilman
Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the City Manager
was requested to confer with Mr. Stanley D. Whitney, President of the Association,
to determine the location of the concert. Mr. Whitney had previously addressed the
Council in regard to the proposal.
6.v Application was received from Mr. G. F. Churchill for permit to conduct an am-
usement enterprise at the San Francisco Bay Airdrome. -On motion of Councilman Eschen,
seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the application ;as referred
to the City Manager for investigation and to report back to the Council.
7.1 A petition as received from various property owners objecting to an advertising
sign which has been placed upon a vacant lot on the corner of Oak Street and Lincoln.
Avenue. The petition. was referred to the City Manager for investigation.
RESOLUTIONS:
8. Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1825
Authorizing the City Manager to Sign
Applications on Behalf of the City of
Alameda for C.W.A. Projects and Desig-
nating the City Engineer to Act as
Supervisor and. Contact Man During the
Construction and Completion of Said Projects
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it as carried unanimously.
9. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1826
Rejecting Claim of William A. Todd for
Damages Against the City of Alameda in
The Sum of 067,000.00"
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
10. Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1827
Rejecting Claim of William A. Todd, Jr., for
Damages against the City of Alameda in the
Sum of 075,000.0e
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it as carried unanimously.
11. Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1828
Rejecting Claim of William A. Todd and.
William A. Todd. Jr., for Damages against
the City of Alameda in the Sum of 051,000.00"
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously
la. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1829
Memorializing Congress in Opposition to
Excise Tax of Five Cents per Pound on
Cocoanut Oil"
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
ORDINANCE PASSED:
V13. The following ordinance was presented for passage:
"Ordinance No.

Amending Section 19, Chapter II of Ordinance
No. 1, New Series, known as the Municipal
Code of the City of Alameda, approved January
14,1913, by Re-enactIng Said. Section as Amended".
Councilman Eschen moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Councilman
Morris and on roll call carried unanimously.

On motion of Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Eschen, the bills were on roll
