HELD TUESDAY EVENING APRIL 3rd,1934
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Eschen and. Bruzzone and. President Murray (3)
were noted present. Absent: Councilmen Morris and. Tiedemann (2).
The minutes of the regular meeting of March 20th, 1934, were approved as read.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Mr. Frank Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to the operation of busses
of the East Bay Motor Coach Lines, claiming that by stopping too far from the curb ac-
cidents are possible. The City Manager was requested to investigate and to communicate
the complaint to the Citizens' Safety Council.
WRITTEN C OTIAUNI CATIONS :
72. / From the City Engizr regarding a claim for refund of $1.50 for weed cleaning to
Mrs. J. H. Goetz, informing the Council that cleaning notice was posted on June 27th,
1933 on Lot 22, of the Thompson Tract, and the lot was cleaned on July 19th, 1933. On
motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone, the request was unani-
mously denied,
From Powell Bros., Inc., requesting the closing of Harrison Avenue from the east-
erly line of Pearl Street running easterly 192.71 feet along the southerly line of
Harrison Avenue. On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and
unanimously carried, the request was denied.

From the City Planning Commission, referring to a petition from Howard S. Hill
for a temporary permit to conduct a maintenance shop for automobiles, electrical ap-
pliances and repairs, in the back yard of 2258 Santa Clara Avenue, which was presented
at the regular meeting of the Council of March 6th, 1934. It was the unanimous decis-
ion of the Planning Commission to recommend that the temporary permit be granted on
the Council's own initiative. On motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman
Eschen and unanimously carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was
adopted.
5, ./ A petition from A. Terry, 2644 Dwight Way, Berkeley, for a gratuitous license to
sell her own products, shampoos, in the City of Alameda. On motion of Councilman
Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the petition was denied.
/6, / From Alameda Post #9, American Legion, presenting a petition signed by residents
of the City of Alameda, requesting establishment of a park to be situated adjacent to
Otis Drive. Councilman Eschen moved that the petition be denied. Mr. Ferretti and. Mr.
Gottstein addressed the Council in objection to the petition and. Mr. H. Rogers, repre-
senting,the petitioners, advocated that it be granted. Mr. Rogers subsequently request-
ed permission to withdraw the petition, which he was permitted to do.
From John Parker, requesting the Council to go on record and endorse the action of
the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County as being in favor of confining employment of
all labor and purchase of materials for the new County Court House to residents of
the County, and the appointment of a resident of Alameda to the Board of Supervising
Architects which it is proposed to appoint. On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded
by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the communication was referred to the
City Attorney so that in event the election is favorable to the bond issue, he may
prepare a resolution showing the recommendations made.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
v'8.4 The only bid received for the construction of tennis courts at Franklin Park, the'
opening of which was deferred from the regular meeting of the Council of March 20th,
was, on motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Eschen, ordered returned
to the bidder, unopened, and the Clerk was instructed to re-advertise for bids for this
work.
9. The following communications ex. Committee of the Whole were ordered filed, on
motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone:
Communication from J. H. Burrows, in reference to parking.
Communication from O. A. Leydecker, in reference to special audit
of the City Manager's Revolving Fund,
Report of special audit of the Gity Manager's Revolving Fund made
by Messrs. Jordan and Ticoulet, Special Accountants.
RESOLUTIONS:
10. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1835
Designating the Official Newspaper of the City of Alameda"
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
11. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1836
Fixing the Salary of the City Attorney."
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.

were, on roll call, passed unanimously.
There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned, to
meet in regular session Tuesday evening, April I7th, 1934, at 8 o'clock.
