HELD TUESDAY EVENING APRIL 17th,1934
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Bruzzone, Morris, Tiedemann and President
Murray (4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Eschen, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 3rd, 1934, were read and approved.
41 Councilman Bruzzone moved, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried
that the regular order of business be suspended. Councilman Bruzzone made a motion,
seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried that bids be opened for the
construction of tennis courts at Franklin Park. The bids were as follows:

Accompanied by Cashier's Check for $230.00

On motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously
'carried, the bids were referred to the City Engineer for examination and report back
to the Council later in the meeting.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
2. From Alameda City Department of Social Service protesting against the holding
of the Walkathon in Alameda. The communication was ordered filed.
3.V From Carpenters' Union #194, requesting the City of Alameda to pay the prevail-
ing wage scale of this district for all skilled labor performed for the City in,the
future. The communication was ordered filed after the Council had been addressed by
Mr. C. E. Risley, Business Representative of-the Union.
4.1 From Manuel Soares offering to purchase for $20.00 the old water storage tank
in Franklin Park, to be taken down and removed from the premises. Also offering
$20.00 additional for the remainder of the wooden structure of the pump house, in-
cluding its wrecking and removal, a total of $40.00. Councilman Bruzzone moved,
seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, that the offer be accepted
and that the Mayor be authorized to sign a contract for the work.

1/5.1 From Virgil Leslie, requesting a gratuitous license to sell eggs from house to
house in Alameda. On motion of Councilman Tiedemann, seconded by Councilman Morris
and unanimously carried, the request was denied.
v/6,7 From William Merryfield, reauesting a gratuitous license to operate a taxi,
with headquarters at the San Francisco Bay Airdrome, for the reason that he is a
disabled veteran. In view of the fact that the State law makes the granting of such
a license compulsory, Councilman Morris moved, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and
unanimously carried, that the gratuitous license be granted.

On motion of Councilman Tiedemann, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously
carried, the petition was denied.
1/ 8.V From Mayor Murray, notifying the Council of his appointment of Mr. John M.
O'Dea as a member of the Board of Public Utilities, for the term of office beginning
May 1st, 1934 and expiring April 30th, 1938. On motion of Councilman Bruzzone,
seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, the appointment was confirmed.
9./ From Mayor Murray, notifying the Council of his appointment of Mr. Everett E.
Farwell as a member of the ,Board of Education, for the term of office beginning
May 1st, 1934, and expiring April 30th, 1939. On motion of Councilman Morris,
seconded by douncilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the appointment was con-
firmed.
10. From Mayor Murray, notifying the Council of his appointment of Mr. F. A. Wil-
liamson as a member of the Free Library Board of Trustees, for the term of office
beginning May 1st, 1934 and expiring April 30th, 1939. On motion of Councilman
Morris, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the appointment
was confirmed.
11,i From the City Engineer, George Sperbeck, requesting an appropriation of $75.00
to be used for the hiring of an orchestra for the May Day Fete to be held May 12th.
Councilman Bruzzone moved, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried,
that a sum not exceeding $60.00 be allowed the City Engineer for this purpose.
UNFINISHED EUSINESS:

12.1 The City Engineer reported that W. H. Larson appeared to be the low bidderfor
constructing tennis courts at Franklin Park, at a sum of approximately 41586,00. On
motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried
the bid was accepted and the Mayor authorized to sign a contract for the construction.
Councilman Bruzzone moved, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously cartied,
that the certified checks be returned to the unsuccessful bidders.
RESOLUTIONS:
r' 13. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1837
Transferring 44,071.48 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund"
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
14. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1838
Transferring 41,781.25 from the Electric Light Fund
to the Interest and. Redemption Fund."
Councilman,Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
15. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1839
Transferring 4625.00 from the Electric Light Fund to
the Interest and. Redemption Fund"
Councilman, Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
