HELD TUESDAY EVENING •lst*1934
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Bruzzone, Eschen, Morris and President Murray,
(4) were noted present. Absent: Council Tiedemann, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 17th, 1934, were read and approved,
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
1. Mr. Frank Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to transportation to the
San Francisco Bay Bridge.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
V2./ From the Alameda Improvement Club in reference to tennis tournaments and addition-
al tennis courts. The communication was referred to the City Manager for investigati
and reply.
v3.y/ A petition signed by various residents, requesting that trucks using Buena Vista
Avenue, between Everett Street and. Versailles Avenue be routed some other way. The
petition was referred to the City Manager for investigation and report.
/4.v From rrett Camp No, 29, United. Spanish War Veterans, extending an invitation to
the Mayor and members of the Council to attend a Memorial Day program to be held on
the morning of May 30th, 1934. The communication was ordered filed.
(5. From Alameda Council Parent-Teachers Association, containing a resolution of
protest against the Walkathon Derby. The communication was, without objection» referIl .
ed to the City Manager for investigation and report.
6. v Application from the Standard Oil Company of California for permission to erect
a storage tank with a capacity of 19,000 gallons on its plant premises on the west
side of Versailles Avenue between Fernside ,Boulevard. and. Harrison Avenue. Also a
communication from the Chief of the Fire Department, Thomas M. Lane, in reference t)
this application, recommending that a permit be not granted until a satisfactory
arrangement is agreed upon for fire prevention, at the plant. On motion of Council-
man Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, the recommendation
of the Fire Chief was adopted, and the application denied.
y 7./ From Mr. John V. Ferretti, President of the Taxpayers' League of Alameda, in
reference to meetings of the Council as Committee of the Whole. After the Mayor had
referred to Ordinance No. 473, New Series, providing for such meetings, the communi-
cation was ordered filed.
A petition signed by various citizens, recommending the appointment of J. Frank-
lyn Smith to the office of Civil Investigator. The petition was ordered filed.
NEW BUSINESS:
V9• / On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously
carried, Mr. Harry P. Stow was re-appointed a member of the City Planning Commission
for term ending December 31st, 1938.
/ 10 Councilman Morris read Ordinance No. 473 N.S. "Adopting Rules of Order for the
Conduct of Council Meetings and Providing for the Preliminary Consideration of Reports
and. Other Matters Prior to Said Meetings."
