REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY zysludiG JUNE' 19th, 1934
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Bruzzone, Eschen, Tiedemann and President
Murray (4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Morris, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting,of June 5th, 1934, were read and approved.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
1. Mt. Frank Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to police service at
the Alameda portal of the Posey Tube.
2. Mr. David Cobb, representing the ,Alameda Unemployed Association, requested as-
sistance for the Association from the Council, and,was,requested by the Mayor to make
his appeal to the City Manager.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
From the City Manager, in reference to a proposed resolution of Acceptance and
Consent to Recordation of certain improved streets of a private subdivision south of
Otis Drive, recommending that the streets be not accepted until street lighting im-
provements of a type and design acceptable to the Board of Public Utilities and the
Council be installed by the owners of the subdivision, as adopted by the Council at
its regular meeting of February 20th, 1934. On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded
by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the recommendation of the City Man-
ager was adopted.-
V4. From Mr. Ira Judson Coe, requesting an extension of sixty days on his permit-
dated December 5th, 1933, to investigate shell deposits in the outer harbor. On
motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Tiedemann and unanimously car-
ried, the extension was granted.
v/ A petition from various residents located in the 1200 block on Park Street, be-
tween Encinal and. San Antonio Avenues, that parking be limited to one hour between
the hours of nine A.X. and six P.M. on the above mentioned block. On motion of
Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried, the
petition was referred to the City Manager.
v/6. An application for a gratuitous license to sell fruit and vegetables from house
to house, from Mr. Matted LaBua, on the ground that he is a war veteran. On motion
of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Tiedemann and unanimously carried,
the ,petition was granted.
V47• v. From the City Manager, referring to a request of the Standard 011 Company for
permission to install an additional above-ground storage tank with a capacity of
19,000 gallons, to be located at their plant on the west side. of Versailles Avenue,
between Fernside Boulevard and Harrison Avenue, informing the Council that a
communication had been received from the Board of Fire Underwriters recommending
the installation requested. On motion of Councilman Bruzzone, seconded by Council-
man Eschen, and unanimously carried, the Council adopted the recommendation of the
City Manager and the permit was granted.
f/8.'l. From Miss Sylvia Jacoby requesting permission to operate an ice cream and
candy stand in Franklin Park, accompanied by a communication from the City Manager,
informing the Council that there are no building provisions in Franklin Park for
such a concession as requested by Miss Jacoby and that he does not believe such
building should be provided either by the City or the applicant, as it would con-
fliCt with the appearance of the rehabilitated park. On motion of Councilman Tied-
emann, seconded by Councilman Eschen and unanimously carried, the petition was
denied.
/9v From D. O. Golgrove, agent for owners of property located at the corner of
Oak Street and Central Avenue, known as Recreation Center of the Methodist-Episcopal
Church, and verbally by C. D. Whitmore, owner of the adjoining property, for an
extension of time within which to use the property as outlined in the petition
approved by the City Planning Commission for reclassification from a Special Dist
rict, Class IV, to a Business District, Class V, and granted by Ordinances Nos.
514, N. S., and 515, N. S., passed by the Council on the 2nd day of January,1934.
After T.O.Robinson, who expects to occupy the premises, addressed the Council,
an extension of sixty days was granted, on motion of Councilman Tiedemann and
seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously carried.
NEW 'BUSINESS:
V 10:1 On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone and unanimously
carried, the City Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for official advertis-
ing for the fiscal year 1934-1935.
RESOLUTIONS:
11. CouncilmAn Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
Resolution No. 1846
Transferring $4100.00 from the General Fund to the Interest
and Redemption Fund."
Councilwin Tiedemann seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
12. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1847
Fixing Salaries of the General Foreman and the Clerk of the
Street Department"
CouncilmAn Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
13. Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1848
Transferring $3,449.51 from the Electric Light Fund to the
General Fund."
Councilman Tiedemann seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
FILING:
14. The Clerk stated that since the last meeting of the Council the following paper
had been received for filing:
Affidavit of Publication - Delinquent Tax List in and for the
City of Alameda.
