1934-08-21 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY o.i.diNiaG - AUGUST 21,1934.
The meeting convened at 8 oielock P.M. with President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Bruzzone, Morris and President Murray (3),
were noted present. Absent; Councilmen Eschen and Tiedemann, (2).
The minutes of the regular meeting of August 7th, 1934, were read and approved.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
1. A communication was received from the Board of Supervisors, informing the Countl
that the Emergency Relief Administration of the State of California was establishing
a registration office in the City of Alameda. The communication was ordered filed.
v" 2. From the Mayor, City Manager and. Deputy Auditor, reporting that the money and
securities in the City Treasury on August 16th, 1934, had been counted and there was
under control of the City Treasurer the amount of ,18,842.61, which was the amount
Which,- according to the Auditor's books, should have been at that time in the City
Treasury. The communication was ordered filed,
3.7 From the City Planning Commission, recommending that the southwest corner of
Union Street and. Eagle Avenue be reclassified from a Residence District, Class I, to
a Residence District, Class 1*, to permit a two-apartment house, the location being,
in their opinion, appropriate for such a structure. On the motion of Councilman
Bruzzone, seconded by Councilman Morris, and unanimously earried, the recommendation
was adopted.
4./ From the Board of Public Utilities, quoting a letter from the Smith Lumber Co.
in reference to the type of lighting standard to be installed in the subdivision
controlled by that Company. The communication was referred to the City Attorney
for reply.
5./ From the Citizens Square Deal Forum, requesting permission for the use of
the Council Chambers for a public meeting on the evening of September 13th, 1934.
On motion of Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Bruzzone the petition was
granted.
I/ 6. From Ira Judson Coe, making application for lease agreement for dredging shells
in the San Francisdo Bay from that area owned by the City of Alameda lying between
the outer line of tide lands at San Francisco County line. The oammunication was
referred to the Committee of the Whole.
From J. M. Cunningham, requesting that repairs be made to the concrete steps
leading to the beach at the south end of St. Charles Street. The communication was
referred to the City Manager for attention,
RESOLUTIONS:
8, Counci3mAn Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1858
Declaring the Necessity and. Expediency of Providing Certain
Public Works for Relief of Unemployed. Residents of the City
of Alameda, Specifying the Public Work to be Done and the
Total Sum to be Withdrawn and. Expended From the 'Relief
Fund' for suoh Purposes."
Councilmen Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
9. Councilman Bruzzone introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1859
Appointing Jordan & Ticoulet Expert Accountants for the
City of Alameda and Fixing their Salaries"
Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
10. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1860
Transferring J5,000.00 from the Electric Light Fund to
the General Fund."
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
, 11. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1861
Transferring $5,000.00 from the General Fund to the
Municipal Bus Fund."
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
12. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1862
Transferring $50,000.00 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1863
Transferring $2,823.57 from the Electric Light FUnd
to the General Fund.
Councilman Bruzzone seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously.
ORDINANCE FOR PASSAGE:
/14. The following ordinance was presented for passage:
"Ordinance No. ____,
Ordinance Regulating Use of cum, Appliances,
Equipment or Apparatus which Interferes with the
Reception of Radio Broadcast Signals, and Providing
Penalties for the Violation Thereof."
Councilman Bruzzone moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Council-
man Morris, and on roll call carried unanimously.
