1934-12-20 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD THURSDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 20th, 1934 The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with President Murray presiding. The roll was called and Councilmen Morris, Roebke, Tiedemann and President Murray, (4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Eschen, (1). The minutes of the regular meeting of December 4th, 1934, and of the regular meeting of December 18th, 1934, were read and approved. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: 1, Mr. Frank Gottttein addressed the Council in reference to the Government loan for additional construction on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: 17 2. From the City Attorney, in reference to a suit brought by Dr. F.W. Vowinckel against the City of Alameda to quiet title of property at 325 Pacific Avenue, which was ordered filed. 3. V( From the City Planning Commission, recommending unanimously that a petition be disallowed fir the reclassification of 3116 Central Avenue and 1363 High Street, from Residence District, Classes I and. II, to a Business District, Class V, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a gasoline service station. Councilman Morris moved, seconded by Councilman Roebke, that the recommendation of the Planning Com- mission be adopted, following which Messrs. Tromp and Ward addressed the Council, and the motion was withdrawn, and a motion by Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Roebke, was unanimously carried postponing Council action on the Commission's recommen- dation until the second meeting in February, 1935. I/ 4./ From the Board of Public Utilities, accompanied by copy of Findings and Award by the Industrial Accident Commission in favor of J. t. Soares, in the amount of $621.15, less $25.00 payable to John F. Balaam, as attorneys fee. On motion of Councilmen Roebke, seconded by Councilman Tiedemann and unanimously carried, the payments were ordered made from the Compensation Insurance Fund. 5./ From the City Manager, recommending that a permit be granted to the General Petroleum Corp., for the installation of four 550 gallon gasoline storage tanks on the premises situated on the southwest corner of Lincoln Avenue and Park Street, the installation having been approved by the Chief of the Fire Department and the Build- ing Inspector. On motion of Councilman Tiedemann, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried, the permit was granted. V 6./ From W. E. Gilbert, requesting a gratuitous:license under Section 489 of the Municipal Code, to sell knife sharpeners on the grounds that he is a disabled. Span- ish War Veteran. On motion of Councilman Tiedemann, seconded by Councilman Roebke, and unanimously carried, the petition was granted. 7. At this time Councilman Roebke read a communication signed by himself, Charles W. Broyles and Bruce A. Munroe, and also a resolution which accompanied it in ref- erence to the use of the Transbay Bridge for rail communication, and the possible abandanent by the Southern Pacific Company of the ferry service to Alameda. RESOLUTIONS: 8, Councilman Roebke introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1895 To Establish an Office of the State Employment Bureau in the City of Alameda." Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously. 9. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1896 Transferring $4,132.97 from the Electric Light Fund to the General Fund." Councilman Tiedemann seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously 10. Councilman Tiedemann introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1897 Transferring $1,723.82 from the General Fund to the Electric Light Fund." Councilman Roebke seconded the motion and on roll call it was carried unanimously. 11. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1898 Transferring $50,000.00 from the Electric Light Fund to the General Fund." Councilman Tiedemann seconded the motion and on roll call it was eared unanimously. ORDINANCE PASSED: The following ordinances were presented for passage: 12. "Ordinance No. ____, Series RECLASSG PROPERTY (Lot 3, Block "G" Waterside Terrace - Fernside Blvd.) Councilman Tiedemann moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Council- man Roebke and on roll call carried unanimously. 3. "Ordinance No. New Series Authorizing Lease to Oscar H.Anderson of Portion of Municipal Golf Course Club House of Alameda." Councilman Tiedemann moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Council man Morris and on roll call carried unanimously. FILING: v14, The Clerk stated that since the last regular meeting of the Council the following paper had been received for filing: Order before the Railroad Commission extending time. BILLS: 715. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several depa ments thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council: General Departments, $4093.55; Police Department, $24.75; Fire Department, $195.46; Street Department, $1572.92; Health Department, $119,57; Park Department, $872.98; Golf Course Department, $425.39; Store Department, $3770,77; Social Service- Recreution Department, $86.34; Initiative Relief Fund, $88,00; Street Improvement Fund, $66.14; Compensation Insurance Fund, $646.15; Unemployment Yund, $611.50. Councilman Morris moved, seconded by Councilman Tiedemann, and on roll call passed unanimously, that the claims and bills against the City in the several amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims against the City of Alameda, filed with the City Clerk on December 20th, 1934, and presented to the City Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular session on Wednesday evening, January 2nd, 1935, at 8 o'clock P.M. Respectfully submitted,
