1933-03-21 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD TUESDAY EVENING, MARCH 21,1933 The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Murray presiding. The roll was called and Councilmen Leydecker, Morris, Schaefer and President Murray (4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman. Shanly. The minutes of the regular meeting of March 7th, 1933 were approved as read. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: 1. Mr, Gottstein addressed the Council in reference to lighting conditions in the Posey Tube. 2. Mr. W. R. Calcutt addressed the Council concerning the replacement of the Park Street Bridge, expressing his belief that it was unsafe and recommending the employment by the City of an engineer to examine the bridge and report its condition. Upon motion of Mr. Schaefer, seconded by Mr. Leydecker and unanimously carried, the matter was referred to the Committee of the Whole. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: The following communications were received: 3. / From the North Side Protective Club requesting information of the present status of the proposed new Park Street Bridge. The communication was, without objection, referred to the Committee of the Whole. 7 4. 1 From the City Manager referring to a communication of February 6th, from Mr. W. R. Calcutt, regarding repairs to the Park Street Bridge and informing the Council that the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors had informed him that the question of constructing a new bridge would come up before the Budget Committee of the Board at the time the County Budget is prepared for the fiscal year 1933-1934. 5. / From the City Manager informing the Council that the City Engineer had taken up with the Board of Regents of the University of California the matter of constructing a roadway leading from Pacific Junction to Benton Field, and expressing accord with the opinion of Ur. Robert M. Underhill, Secretary of the Board of Regents, that reopening the question of a highway at this time might be detrimental to the City's interests, in secur- ing a lateral to the Trans-Bay Bridge. The communication was, without objection, ordered filed. 6. '' From the Alameda Improvement Club in reference to a proposed ordinance providing for licensing and regulating itinerant peddlers. The communication was, without objection, referred to the Committee of the Whole, V 7. 'fj A petition from a number of residents in the vicinity of 510 Haight Avenue, re- questing the condemnation and removal of the building on the premises mentioned. Upon motion of Mr. Schaefer and seconded by Mr. Morris, and unanimously carried, the petition was referred to the Building Inspector, with request that he report to the next meeting of the Council. 8. From Mr. E. H. Richardson, enclosing a petition from thirty-three merchants in the vicinity of Webster Street, approving the rezoning of property on Buena Vista Avenue west of the Southern Pacific Company's right-of-way. The communication was without ob- -jection, ordered filed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: I/ 9 Mr. Schaefer moved that he be permitted to withdraw his motion to postpone to the first meeting in April consideration of the ordinance for the rezoning of property on the north side of Buena Vista Avenue, west of the Southern Pacific Company's right-of- way. Motion seconded by Mr. Morris, and carried unanimously. ESOLUTIONS: 10, 11. 12. Schaefer introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1732 Fixing Salary of Auditor" The motion was seconded by Mr. Leydecker and on roll call carried unanimously, Mr. Leydecker introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1733 Fixing Salary of Treasurer" The motion was seconded by Mr. Morris and on roll call carried unanimously. Mr. Leydecker introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1734 Transferring $75,000 from the Electric Light Fnnd to the General Fund" The motion was seconded by Mr. Morris and on roll call carried unanimously. 13. 14. March21, 1933. Mr. Morris introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1735 Transferring $10,398.40 from the Electric Light Fund to the General Fund" The motion motion was seconded by Mr. Schaefer and on roll call carried unanimously. Mr.Morris The motion was ORDINANCE FOR PASSAGE 15. introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1736 Transferring $1,700.00 from Electric Light Fund to Interest and Redemp- tion Fund". seconded by Mr. Leydecker and on roll call carried (Lot 40 x Vista unanimously. "Ordinance No. New Series • Reclassification of Property 147.50 feet on Northerly line of Buena Avenue, 46.09 feet westerly from Southern Pacific Right of Way)" Mr. Schaefer moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Mr: Leydecker and on roll call carried unanimously. Prior to its passage, Mr. J. W. Hagan and Mr. W. J. Justin had addressed the Council in opposition to this ordinance. ORDINANCE FOR INTRODUCTION; vf The following Charter: 16.
