1933-10-17 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
HELD TUESDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 17,1933
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council President Murray presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Eschen, Morris and President Murray, (3) were
noted present. Absent: Councilmen Leydecker and Shanly, (2).
The minutes of the regular meeting of October 3rd, 1933, were approved as read.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:

1.i From the City Manager, recommending that the bid of the Seagrave Corporation be ac-
cepted for furnishing a 1000 gallon pumping engine for the Alameda City Fire, Department,
at a net price of $12,500.00. On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman
Morris and unanimously carried, the recommendation was adopted and the Mayor was author-
ized to,execute a contract with the Seagrave Corporation for the purchase of this piece
of apparatus.
v" Frpm the Taxpayers' League, protesting against meetings of the Council as a Committee
of the Phole, policing of Council meetings, commenting upon construction of new gutter
bridges,and referring to regulations of work for the unemployed. The communication was
ordered, filed.
3./ From the Alameda Improvement Club, in reference to deposit of peach kernels in vicin-
ity of the old borax works. After the City Manager had explained that this material Ics
being treated by the unmployed for the purpose of preparing it to be,used as fuel, the
communication was ordered filed.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
4.v Councilman Morris called attention to the resignation of Councilmqn James M
presented to the regular meeting of the Council of September 5th, 1933, and made a motbn,
seconded by Councilman Eschen, that the resignation be accepted with regret. The motion
was unanimously carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
;,- 5.1/ A motion was made by Councilman Escheat seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimous-
ly carried, that Mr. Frank J. Bruzzone be appointed a member of the Council of the City
of Alameda to fill,the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr, James M. Shanly.
r/ 6,,,/ On motion of Councilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously car-
ried, the City Clerk was requested to open bids for the construction of a well in Frank-
lin Park. The bids are as follows:

Upon motion of CoUnCilman Eschen, seconded by Councilman Morris and unanimously carried
the bids were referred to the City Manager for his recommendation.
RESOLUTIONS:
V7. Upon motion of Councilman Morris, seconded by Councilman Eschen,
unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted:
"Resolution No. 1796
Authorizing Purchase of Certain Real
Property on Paru Street near San
Antonio Avenue for Park Purposes".
Councilman Eschen introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1797
Transferring $5,625.00 from the Electric
Light Fund to the Interest and Redemption
Fund."

Councilman Morris seconded the motion and on roll call it carried unanimously.

"Resolution No. 1798
Transferring $421.88 from the Electric
Light Fund to the Interest and Redemption
Fund".
Councilman Eschen seconded the motion and on roll call carried unanimously.
ORDINANCE INTRODUCED:
Y10. The following ordinance was introduced and laid over Under provision of the
Charter:
"Ordinance No.
An Ordinance Designating Buena Vista Avenue
as a Through Boulevard and. Providing for the
Erection of Traffic Stop Signals on Both Sides
of Said. Avenue between Webster and Park Streets
at all Intersecting Streets, and Requiring the
Drivers or Operators of all Vehicles to Come to
a Full Stop at Street Intersections Before
Crossing Said Avenue."
