The roll was called and. Councilmen Broyles, Munro and noted present. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). The minutes of the regular meeting of September 3rd, September 12th, 1935, were read and approved. COMMUNICATIONS: VI. A communication was presented from the City Clerk, stating that the following bids had been received for the sale and removal of the house formerly owned by Alfred W. Corrica ....................... 25.00 75.00 163.00 206.00 115.00 It was moved by Councilmen Broyles, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the bid of Balling- er & Co„ in the sum of $206.00 be accepted, and that the City Attorney be requested to draw a contract covering the same. On roll call the motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Council- man ,Eschen and Morris, (2). 2 From the City Attorney, relative to an unclaimed deposit of $289.34, contributed to Water Commission of the East Bay Cities in 1919, and enclosing check to cover amount to be returned to the City of Alameda, namely $29.34. There being no objection the communication was ordered filed. 3• V From the City Planning Commission, relative to petition presented by the .Richfield Oil Company for a re-hearing on the matter of reclassification of the northeast corner of Central Avenue and Union Street. to Business District, Class V, and notifying the Council that it is the decision of the City Planning Commission that this petition for re-hearing be denied, and that the Commission re-affirm the recommendation heretofore made on the matter to the Council, that this reclassification be not granted, There being no objection, the communication was ordered filed. / 1/4.Y From the Alameda City Tennis Championships Committee, requesting the Council to grant $25.00 for the Tennis Championships which will commence on Sunday, September 21st, at Washington Park. It was moved by Councilman Munro, seconded by Councilman Broyles, that the request be complied with. On roll call the motion carried by the follo,'ng vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. AbSe : Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2 // From the City Manager, relative to the claim of Worden & Forsythe, for cost of fence ordered by the City of Alameda for the sum of $1232.00, and the payment for which was ruled illegal, and recommending that the City now purchase said fence for the sum of $992.06. Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the recommen- dation of the City Manager be concurred in, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2)4 v6.vi From the City Treasurer and Tax Collector, relative to amount of money that should be deposited in banks pursuant to Section 3 of Chapter 710, Statutes of 1935. There being no objection; the matter was deferred until-"Resolutions." V7./ From the Department of Public Utilities, enclosing copy of Resolution passed at a meeting of the Board of Public Utilities Commissioners, entitled, "Resolution Denying Libelous Report Attributed to John V. Ferrett, President Alameda Taxpayers League", There being no objection, the communication and resolution were ordered filed. / / VE3. From the City Manager, regarding the safety of the City Hall building, requesting permission to employ such help as will be necessary to make a thorough examination and .report on same, and in case it be found advisable to remove the remaining portion of the tower, or in any manner to reinforce or repair the floor joists, that permission be granted him to draw up plans andspecifications and to advertise for bids to correct the fault. Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the recommen- dations of the City Manager be adopted, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). RESOLUTIONS: 9. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 1987 Consenting to the Deposit of Public Money in Banks", Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll oall carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Council- men Eschen and Morris, (2). 10, Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of the following resolution, and that it be spread in full on the minutes: "Resolution No. 1988 Extending Thanks to the Council of the City of Oakland "RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Alameda speaking for and in the name of the people of said city, that the thanks of said City Council be, and the same are hereby, extended to the City Council of the City of Oakland for its action in - endorsing Alameda's application to the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works for a grant of more than one million dollars to assist in financing a sub-aqueous tunnel and railway connection to the transbay bridge. "RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread in full on the minutes in the Record Book of the City Council of the City of Alameda, and a copy thereof forwarded to the City Council of the City of Oakland, and to the public press", Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call oarried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3 ) Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). 11. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of the following resolution, and that it be spread in full on the minutes: "Resolution No. 1989 Extending Thanks to the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County, "RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Alameda, speaking for and in the name of the people of said city, that the thanks of said City Council be, and the same are hereby, extended to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Alameda for its action in endorsing Alamedats application to the Federal Pmerbency Administration of Public Works for a grant of more than one million dollars to assist in financing a sub-aqueous tunnel and railway connection to the transbay bridge. "RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread in full on the minutes in the Record Book of the City Council of the City of Alameda, and a copy thereof forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of Alameda County, and to the public press." Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2), ORDINANCE FOR PASSAGE: "Ordinance No. New Series An Ordinance Regulating the Operation and Maintenance of Laundry Establishments for the City of Alameda", Councilman Broyles moved that the ordinance as read be adopted, seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Eschen and Morris,(2). FILING: 13. The Clerk offered for filing the following papers: vResolution passed by County Board of Supervisors, re endorsement of sub-aqueous tunnel project. vResolution passed by Oakland City Council, endorsing sub-aqueous tunnel project. BILLS: 14. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several depart- ments thereof, in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council: General Departments, $4396.58; Police Department, $4.38; Pound Department,$2.94, Fire Department, '161.87; Street Department, $375.78; Health Departent, $150.69; Park Department, 400.90; Golf Course Department, $396.06; Store Department,$2482.05; Social Service Department, 36.20; Initiative Relief Fund, $8,00, Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the claims and bills against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims against the City of Alameda filed with the City Clerk on September 17th, 1935, and presented to the Council at this meeting, be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Esehen and Morris, (2). 15. At the invitation of Mayor Roebke, the Hon. Albert Rosenshine addressed the Council. 16. Thera being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular session on Tuesday morning, October 1st, 1935, at 11:00 o'clock A.M.
