HELD FRIDAY EVENING, APRIL 24th 1936
The meeting convened at 6:30 o'clock P.M. by President Roebke, presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President
Roebke, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
MINUTES:
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 7th and the regular meeting of April
21st, 1936, were read and approved.
COMMUNICATIONS:
1./ A communication was presented from Musicians' Union Local No. 6, American Federation
of Musicians, asking the Council to give consideration to municipal band fund for pur-
pose of playing a series of Sunday band concerts. There being no objection, the communi-
cation was referred to the City Manager.
2.// From John A. Gillard, requesting gratuitous li.dense to sell novelties, stating that
he is a disabled War Veteran. Councilman Broyles moved that the license be granted,
seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5). Noes: None. Absent:
None.

4. v, From Hollywood Post No. 939, Veterans of Foreign Wars, requesting privilege of,
sponsoring shows to enable the organization to raise sufficient funds for Winter charity
activities. Councilman Eschen moved that this matter be referred to the City Attorney
for his opinion as to whether the request can be granted and that it also be referred
back to the City Clerk for the dates of the proposed shows, seconded by Councilman
Broyles and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Eschen,
Morris, Munro and President Roebke,(5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
5./ F am Lochiel M. King, regarding financing of sub- aqueous tunnel by United States
Government. Councilman Broyles moved that'a copy of this letter be forwarded to all
organizations in the City of Alameda requesting them to pass resolutions to be sent
to Washington; °also that the City Manager arrange a meeting between a representative
of the Toll Bridge Authority, Ordnance Engineers of Benton Army Base, the Engineer
of the Navy Base, the County Engineer, City Attorney, a representative of the South-
ern Pacific Company, division head of the State Highway Commission, representative
of the Taxpayers' League, the Board of Public Utilities and the Board of Supervisors
of Alameda County, seconded by Councilman Munro and on roll call carried by the
following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke,
(5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
6,7 From Alameda Colored Women's Civic Study Club, requesting permission to use the
Council Chambers on or about May 8th, 1936, for the observance of National Negro
Health Week. Councilman Munro moved that the request be granted, seconded by Council-
man Eschen, and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles,
Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
7./ From Mayor Roebke, recommending inspection of all automobiles, both new and
second -hand, before they are sold in the City of Alameda. Councilman Broyles
moved that this matter be referred to the City Attorney for his advice, seconded by
Councilman Esohen and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilman
Broyles, Esehen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke (5), Noes: None. Absent: None.
8./ From Mayor Hans. W. Roebke, notifying the Council that he had appointed Mr.
Chester F. Hacke, 1318 Caroline Street, as a member of the Board of Education, to
succeed Mr. William Carleton, resigned, the term expiring April 30th, 1937. Counc
man Broyles moved that the appointment be concurred in, seconded by Councilman
Munro and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles,
Munro and President Roebke, (3). Noes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Absent:
None.
RESOLUTIONS:
9. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2046
Transferring $10,000 from the General Fund of the City
to Account No. 66, General School Fund,"
Councilman Esohen seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Eschen, Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5). Noes:

Councilman Munro seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the followin

11. Councilman Broyles introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2048
Approving the Hayden-Bieter Bill for Further
Enterprises",
Councilman Munro seconded the motion and on roll call carried by the following
vote.: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Escheat Morris, Munro and President Roebke, (5).
Noes: None. Absent: None.

thereof in the total amounts as follows, were presented to the City Council: (List
dated April 21st, 1936) General Departments, $4632.97; Police Department, $30.67;
Pound Department, $.09; Fire Department, $135.26; Street Department, $9.26; Health
Department, $140.51; Park Department, $57.66; Golf Course Department, $211.05;
Store Department, $2447.59; Social Service Department, $45.36; Initiative Relief
Fund, $140.00; Street Improvement Fund, $110.87; Gas Tax Fund, $34.11. (List dated
April 24th, 1936). General Departments, $60.75; Store Department, $1355.59;'East

Councilman Broyles moved, seconded by Councilman Munro, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the list of claims, filed
with the City Clerk dated April 21st, 1936, and the supplemental list dated April
24th, 1936, and filed with the City Clete on April 24th, 1936, and presented to
the Council at this meeting be allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Broyles, Munro and. President Roebke, (3).
Noes: Councilmen Eschen and Morris, (2). Absent: None.
15. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in
regular session Wednesday morning, May 6th, 1936, at 11 o'clock A.M.
