1937-03-25 Adjourned Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA HELD THURSDAY AFTERNOON, MARCH 25th . . . . . ..... 1937 The meeting convened at 5:35 o'clock P.M. with Vice President Weichhart presiding. The roll was called, and Councilmen Calcutt, Maurer, Morris and Vice President Welch- hart, (4), were noted present. Absent: President Eschen (1). WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: 1. A communication was presented from Lee H. Cavanaugh and W. S. Bean requesting a temporary revocable permit to use as a lot for the purpose of selling used cars that property distant 50.18 feet south of Buena Vista Avenue with a frontage of 60 feet on Park Street. On motion of Councilman Maurer, seconded by Councilman Morris and unan- imously carried, the request was referred to the City Planning Commission for hearing. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES, ETC: v2. From the City Manager and the City Engineer informing the Council that the Depart- ment of Public Works,Division of Highways, had recommended that the contract for the improvement of Otis Drive be awarded to Heafey-Moore Co., the low bidder, for the sum of $26,130.20, and requesting that the recommendation be adopted. Councilman Morris moved, seconded by Councilman Maurer, that the contract be awarded to Heafey-Moore Co., at the price named and the City Clerk be instructed to return the certified checks to the unsuccessful bidders. The motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Council- men Calcutt, Maurer, Morris and Vice President Weichhart,(4). Noes: None. Absent: President Eschen, (1). /3. The City Manager requested the Council's permission to telegraph to Wash- ington D. C., asking that there be no layoff of W.P.A. workers until June and that they be allowed a 10 per cent increase in compensation in Alameda County, the same as in other counties in the State, which action is approved by the District and State Directors of the W.P.A. Councilman Maurer moved that the City Manager's request be granted, seconded by Councilman Morris, and on roll call carried by the following vote; Ayes: Councilmen Calcutt, Maurer, Morris and Vice President Weichhart, (4). Noes: None. Absent: President Eschen, (1). RESOLUTIONS: 4. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 2151 APPOINTING ELECTION OFFICERS AND FIXING THEIR COMPENSATION, DESIGNATING POLLING PLACES AND PROVIDING FOR NOTICES TO BE GIVEN", Councilman Calcutt seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote; Ayes: Councilmen Calcutt, Maurer, Morris and Vice President Weichhart, (4). Noes: None. Absent: President Eschen, (1). 5. Councilman Calcutt introduced and moved the adoption of "Resolution No. 2152 AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING FRED J. CROLL AS FISCAL AGENT TO SIGN APPLICATIONS TO THE WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR EMERGENCY PROJECTS UNDER TEE CONTROL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA", Councilman Maurer seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote; Ayes: Councilmen Calcutt, Maurer, Morris and Vice President Weichhart, (4). Noes: None. Absent: President Eschen, (1). FILING: 6. Affidavit of Publication of Proposed City Charter, City of Alameda, published as of March 19th, 1937. /7. Mr. Frank Correia addressed the Council in reference to improvements in the vicinity of the proposed new City park, and the improvement of Court Street. He was asked to submit his request in writing to the Council giving the details. 8.
