HELD TUESDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 2nd 1937
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock P.M. with President Weichhart presiding.
The roll was called, and Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5), were noted present. Absent: None.
MINUTES:
1. The minutes of the regular meeting of October 19th, 1937, and of the adjourned regular
meeting of October 25th, 1937, were approved as transacribed.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
2. A communication was presented from JohaF. Ward, requesting that the City place a price
on thirty-eight acres of land located on Government Island and owned by the City of Alameda
as he has a client who is interested in the property. The communication was referred to
the Committee of the Whole.
/3. From G. B. Stagnaro, requesting the City Council to grant a permit for the completion
of street work on Elf* Street between Pacific and Buena Vista Avenues. The communication
was referred to the City Manager.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
'4. The City Manager submitted plans-and specifications for the construction of a chain
link galvanized fence for tennis court to be located at Linden Street and Haight Avenue,
as prepared by the City Engineer. Councilman Morris moved that the plans and specifica-
tions be adopted and that the City Clerk be instructed to call for bids, seconded by
Councilman Godfrey and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen
Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent:
None,
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES, ETC:
,f5. From the City Planning Board, recommending the reclassification of property known as
2037 Pacific Avenue, from Residential District, Class I, to Residential District, Class
1 3/4,for the purpose of constructing flats. Councilman Maurer moved that the recommend-
ation of the Planning Board be adopted, seconded by Councilman Morris and on roll call
carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and
President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
/6. From Jordan & Ticoulet, informing the Council that an examination of the records and
accounts of the Bureau of Electricity for the month of September 1937 had been made in
accordance with the City charter and it was found that the books had been consistently
kept upon the basis prescribed by the regulations and schedules prepared by the California
Railroad Commission. The communication was ordered filed.
ORDINANCES INTRODUCED:
7. The following ordinance was introduced and laid over under provision of the Charter:

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
8. The City Manager referred to a protest presented to the Council at its regular meet-
ing of October 5th, 1937, against a billboard situated on the south side of Buena Vista
Avenue between Chapin and St. Charles Street, and reported that the billboard is placed
in a legal manner, that he had conferred with the representative of Foster & Kleiser
who expressed a willingness to cooperate with the protestants and had promised to inter-
view them and, if possible, remedy any objectionable features.

Councilman Godfrey moved that the temporary permit granted to Hoppert & Bergesen for the
use of the lot known as 2435 Central Avenue for used car sales be revoked, seconded by
Councilman Carrington and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen
Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None. Absent:
None.
10. Councilman Godfrey requested a report from the City Manager of the hearing before the
Railroad Commission in reference to the automobile ferry rates, and was informed that
the hearing will not be held until November 10th, 1937.
V11. The City Attorney requested permission to take a vacation of two weeks, beginning
about the middle of November. Councilman Maurer moved that the request be granted,
seconded by Councilman Carrington and on roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes:
Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
RESOLUTIONS:
12. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2204
Authorizing the Execution of Escrow Instructions and the
Delivery of the Agreement of Compromise and Deed of Grant
Referred to in Ordinances 616 and 617. New Series. nf the
Councilman Maurer seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carri/Eton, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
13. Councilman Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2205
Designating Certain Streets in the City of
Alameda as Streets of Major Importance",
Councilman Godfrey seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.
14. Councilman Maurer introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 2206
Providing for Semi-monthly Payment of Salaries
of City Officials and Employees",
Councilman Morris seconded the motion, and on roll call carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmen Carrington, Qodfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes:
None. Absent: None.

BILLS:
18. An itemized list of claims against the City of Alameda and the several departments
thereof in the total amounts as follows, was presented to the City Council: General
Departments, $1663.57; Police Department, $304.42; Pound Department, 09.41; Fire Depart-
ment, $388.62; Street Department, $592.68; Health Department, $260.12; Park Department,
$1057.48; Golf Course Department, $359.16; Store Department, $134.50; Social Service
Department, $128.30;Initiative Relief Fund, $136.00; Street Improvement Fund, $100.05 and
Gas Tax Fund #1, $2617.81.
Councilman Godfrey moved, seconded by Councilman Maurer, that the claims and bills
against the City in the amounts as listed and itemized in the List of Claims filed with
the City Clerk on November 2nd, 1937, andiresented to the Council at this meeting be
allowed and paid. On roll call this motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Council-
ment Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (5). Noes: None.
Absent: None.
19. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular
session on Tuesday evening, November 16th, 1937, at 8 o'clock P.M.
