1932-01-05 Regular CC Minutes1. 2.V REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, TUESDAY EVENING', JANUARY 5TH, 1932. Thermeeting convened at 8 Welock P.M. with Vice-president Bordersen presiding, in the absence of Mayor Henning. The roll was Galled and Councilmen Brodersen, Leydecker and Murray, (3) were noted present. Absent: Council-president Henning and Councilman Schaefer, (2). The minutes of the regular meeting of December 15th, 1931 were approved as read. read. The minutes of the special meeting of December 2lst, 1931 were approved as WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: The following communications were received: From the Alameda Chamber of Commerce requesting that means be taken to again reinstall the green lights on street corners. Mr. Leydecker moved that the communication be referred to the City Manager for presentation to the Board of Public Utilities • The motionwas seconded by Mr.Murray and carried unanimously. From the War Department, Washington, relative to receipt of recommendations pertaining to dredging and improvement of Government Island. Mr. Murray moved that the communication be filed, seconded by Mr. Leydecker and carried unanimously. A Public Notice from the War Department, San Francisco, relative to proposed further improvement of Oakland Harbor. Mr. Murray moved that a copy of the communication be sent to the members of the Council and to Mr. E. G. Ryder, President Alameda Chamber of Commerce. The motion was seconded by Mr. Leydecker an carried unanimously. 8.N/ .10.4 From the City Manager relative to complaint filed pertaining to saw filing works at 1116- Park Avenue. Mr. Leydecker moved that the communication be filed, seconded by Mr. Murray and carried. From the City Planning Commission advising of appointment of a committee to attend future meetings and conferences pertaining to development and improvement of Govern- ment Island. Ordered filed. . From the City Planning Commission recommending the granting of a petition for the reclassification of property situated on the north line of Alaneda Avenue, 350 feet west of Willow Street, to a Residence District, Class 12-, Mr. Murray moved that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be adopted, seconded by Mr. Leydecker and same carried unanimously. From the City Planning Commission recommending denial of the petition to reclassify the property at the southwest corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Bay Street, to a Business District, Class V. Mr. Murray moved that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be adopted. The motion received no second. Mr. E. R. Deming addressed the council relative to the proposed reclassification. Mr. Leydeck- er moved that the'matter be referred back to the Planning Commission for further hearing. The motion was seconded by Mr. Brodersen and same carried unanimously. From the City Planning Commission recommending the granting of a temporary and revocable permit for six months to H. F. McCarthy, to bake potato chips on the .premises at 167 Maitland Drive. Mr. Murray moved that the recomaendation af the Planning Commission be adopted, seconded by Mr. Leydecker aid on roll call carried unaaimously. From the City Planning Commissionlrecommending the granting of a temporary and revocable permit for a six month4eriod to Mrs. Madelon T. Wolff, to bake pies on the premises at 1716 Minturn Street. Mr. Leydecker moved that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be adopted, seconded by Mr. Murray and on roll call carried unanimously. From the Mayor, appointing Mr. H. F. Schlichting, as a mamber of the City Planning Commission, for a five year term ending December 31, 1936, to succeed Lochiel M. King, whose term of office has expired. The communication was ordered filed. 11. V From the International Union of Operating Engineers containing complete Prevailing wage scale. Mr. Leydecker moved that the communication be referred to the City Manager for his files. The motion was seconded by Mr. Murray and same carried unanimously. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 12.'! Communication from Pasadena Chapter, D. A. R. re naming of San Francisco Bay Bridge, referred to this meeting from the meeting of the Council held October 6th,-1931. The communication was ordered filed. NEW BUSINESS: 13.v Mr. Randal F. Dickey, addressed the Council and presented a petition relative to the status of Louis Servente as a member of the Police Department of the-City of Alameda. Mr. Leydecker moved that the petition be referred to the City Manager for his attention. The motion was seconded by Mr. Murray and same carried unanimously. ORDINANCE FOR PASSAGE: 14./ The following Ordinance came up for passage aid was read by the Clerk: "Ordinance No. New Seri s. Reclassifying Property. (Known as 554 Pacific Avenue.)" Mr. Murray moved that the ordinance as read be adopt,ed, seconded Mr. Mr. Leydecker and on roll call carried unanimously. ORDINANCE FOR INTRODUCTION: The following ordinance was introduced and laid over under a provition the Charter:- "Ordinance No. New Series. Reclassifying Property. (North linde of Alameda Avenu9,350 feet west of Willow Street" FILING: of The Clerk stated that since the last meeting the following papers had been filed:- 16// Oath of office, G. Hooper, as special police officer. 1'7.V Decision No. 24362, R. R. Commission, application of Southern Pacific Avenue spur tracks to Glass Works property. 18./ Fire Insurance policities of the Home Insurance Company on city , properties. 19,V Statement of adjusted returned premiums to Home Insurance Company. BILLS: Claims against the General Departments amounting to $4149.34; Police Depart- ment, $1088.79; Fire Department, $915.75; Street Department, $1842.74; Health Department, $787.28; Recreation Department, $532.37; Golf Course Department, $1565.86; Store Department, $272,59; Social Service Department, 203.43; Initiative Relief Fund, 975.97; East Bay Municipal Utility District Payments Fund, $4907.61; Compensation Insurance Fund, $171.75; and.
