REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING,MARCE 1ST, 1932.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Murray presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Morris, Shanley and President Murray
(3) were noted present. Absent: Councilmen Leydecker and Schaefer, (2).

WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS:
The following communications were -received:
From Ford & Johnson, Attorneys, re case of Thomas Massie vs. Southern
Pacific Company. Filed.

23rd, 1932 were approved.
From Alameda Belt Line, requesting appointment of one member of the
Council to its Board of Directors, vice Henning. Mr. Shanly moved that Mayor
William F.Murray be nominated as a Director to succeed Wm. H. Henning and that
the City Clerk be instructed to put the motion to the council accordingly. The
motion was seconded by Mr. Morris. Thereupon the Clerk presented the motion to
the Council and the same was carried unanimously.
From the City Manager relative to future granting of gratuitous liaenses.
Mr. Shanly moved that the granting of gratuitous licenses in the future be dis-
continued. The motion was seconded by Mr. Morris and on roll call same carried
unanimously.

From the Building Inspector and City Planning Commission approving
map of sub-division dividing three lots on the southwest corner of Union Street
and Santa Clara Avenue. Mr. Morris moved the adoption of the recommendation
of the City Planning Commission and Building Inspector. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Shanly and same carried unanimously.
From the City Manager recommending that an additional sum of $246.47
be appropriated to the Board of Library Trustees, out of the General Fund, to
apply on their 1931-32 budget allowance covering insurance premiums. Mr. Morris
moved the adoption of the recommendation of the City Manager, seconded by Mr.
Shanly and on roll call carried unanimously.
From the Alameda Improvement Club, re installation of electroliers on
Third Street. There being no objection this communication was referred to the
City Attorney for advice.
13.V From the City Manager re resurfacing tennis courts at Washington Park.
Mr. Morris moved the recommendation of the City Manager be adopted, seconded by
Mr. Shanly and carried unanimously.
14.V From the City Manager, re appropriation of $25.00 to baseball team
organized among members of the Junior Traffic Police. Mr. Morris moved this
communication be referred to a meeting of the Committee of the Whole, seconded by
Mr. Shanly and carried unanimously.
15. From Mrs. A. J. Meyers, requesting refund of $200.00 bail money posted
for the appearance of Harry Stewart. Mr. Ghanly moved that the matter be referred
to the City Attorney for report, seconded by Mr. Morris and carried unanimously,
REPORTS OF COMMTYTEES:
The Road and. Sea-wall Committee rendered a written report as to the ex-
penditure of city funds for the repair of levee on the south shore of Bay Farm
Island. Mr. Shanly moved the report of the Committee be accepted and the Committee
discharged with a vote of thanks. The motion was seconded by Mr. Morris and same
carried unanimously.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
The following communications were taken out of the Committee of the Whole
and filed without further action of the Council:-

From the Alameda Home Protective League, re reclassification of Glass Works
property.

From former Mayor Henning and City Manager Pierson re purchase of
properties for addition to Franklin Park and Park to Willow Tidelands.
20./ From the City Planning Commission re extension of Otis Drive to connect
with Bay Farm Island Bridge.
21./ From the City Manager relative to purclase of the property on the opposite
end of Fernside Boulevard, south of the east end of Encinal Avenue.
22./ Various communications from Improvement Clubs and others protesting
purchase of additional properties.

26/ From Pacific Coast Building Officials Conference re active participating

NEW BUSINESS:
27.7 The City Attorney stated that the Railroad Commission had notified him
that a hearing would be held on the proposed curtailment of service of the Southern
Pacific Company before Commissioner Seavey on Friday, March llth, 1932 at 10 A.M,
in the Council Chambers of the City Hall; that in order to properly present the
case of the City of Alameda, it would be necessary to employ special counsel, an
auditor and engineer to prepare the necessary data. After discussion,Mr. Shanly
moved that the City Attorney employ the necessary help as stated, in order to
properly present the case before the Railroad Commission. The motion was seconded
by Mr. Morris and on roll call carried unanimously.
RESOLUTIONS:
28./ Mr. Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No.1651.
Transferring $5000.00 from the General Fund to the
Compensation Insurance Fund."
Mr. Shanly seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution an! on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
29,/ Mr. Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1652.
Transferring $3500.00 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Mr. Shanly seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
30/ Mr. Morris introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1653,
Transferring $3500,00 from the General Fund to
the Bus Fund."
Mr. Shanly seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
311 Mr. Shanly introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1654.
Accepting and Consenting to Recordation of Map
Covering Subdivision of Certain Proparties on the
Southwest corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Union
Street, Alameda."
Mr. Morris seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
