RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING REGARDING THE
FORMULATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SISTER CITY
RELATIONS BETWEEN THE CITY OF DUMAGUETE, PHILIPPINES
AND THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
WHEREAS, the Alameda Sister City Association was formed in 2014, to
administer and expand the Alameda Sister City Program to encourage friendship and
understanding between the peoples of the United States and other nations through the
medium of direct personal contact; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Alameda and its officials have
enthusiastically endorsed the concept of forming Friendship and Sister City relations
and affiliations with foreign cities with common concerns and mutual interests; and
WHEREAS, representatives of the Alameda Sister City Association have visited
the City of Dumaguete, Philippines and officials of the City of Alameda have exchanged
correspondence with officials in the City of Dumaguete, Philippines to learn more about
the City of Dumaguete and to determine support for said Sister City relations; and
WHEREAS, in June, 2015, the City Dumaguete, Philippines will send a
delegation of government officials to the City of Alameda for the purpose of establishing.
said relations; and
WHEREAS, officials in both cities have indicated a sincere willingness to engage
in programs which will be beneficial to their peoples, particularly in the development of
cultural and social ties and in the development of an exchange program between the
two cities; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda does recognize and endorse
said program with the hope that it will lead to creating goodwill and understanding
between the peoples of our cities and our two great nations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
ALAMEDA that the Mayor is hereby authorized to sign a Memorandum of
Understanding regarding the formulation and implementation of said Sister City
relations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a fully executed and suitably inscribed copy
of this Resolution be presented to the Mayor of Dumaguete, Philippines and that
another copy be filed in the City Clerk's office in the Alameda City Hall.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the City Council of the City of Alameda at a City
Council Meeting assembled on thel 9th day of May, 2015, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Matarrese, Oddie
and Mayor Spencer — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
