AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2018-19 FIRE GRANTS FUND
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURES BUDGET BY $3,043,494, EACH,
AND THE GENERAL FUND EXPENDITURES BUDGET BY $1,166,671
TO ALLOCATE THE REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS PER THE
GRANT REQUIREMENT
WHEREAS, on June 19, 2018, the City Council did adopt a Mid-Cycle Budget
representing the financial plan for conducting the affairs of the City of Alameda for the
Fiscal Year beginning July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department applied and was awarded a Staffing for Adequate
Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant from the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the grant is to assist local fire department with staffing
and deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, assuring communities
have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards; and
WHEREAS, the grant will allow the Fire Department to hire six limited-term
firefighters for a duration of three years; and
WHEREAS, staff is proposing that the General Fund Fire Department
appropriations be decreased by $77,500, the General Fund appropriation for Transfers
Out be increased by $1,166,671, which will provide for required local match funding under
the SAFER grant, the Fire Grants Fund estimated revenue and appropriations be
increased by $3,043,494 each; and
WHEREAS, the Council has considered the report and recommendations of the
City Manager on the budget amendments and has determined that the budget
amendments are both fair and appropriate; and
WHEREAS, this budget ensures that the City of Alameda has exercised prudent
judgment in its fiduciary responsibility as guardian of the public tax dollars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that
budget amendments to decrease the General Fund Fire Department expenditures
appropriations by $77,500, increase the General Fund Transfers Out appropriations of
$1,166,671, increase estimated revenue and expenditure appropriations for the Fire
Grants Fund by $3,043,494, each, for Fiscal Year 2018-19 are approved.
