Resolution 15454CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 15454 DECLARING NOVEMBER 11-17 UNITED AGAINST HATE WEEK IN THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL BOARD AND OTHER BAY AREA CITIES WHEREAS, the Constitution enshrines equality on all individuals, regardless of race, gender, orientation, religion, or political views; and WHEREAS, recently, deep divisions across the country spread to our own community and led to a rise in expressions of hate; and WHEREAS, at the same time we were barraged by hateful acts, Alameda aligned together as a community and stood united against hate; and WHEREAS, residents of Alameda have a tradition of honoring and valuing the diversity of all its residents through the widespread adoption of the "Everyone Belongs Here" campaign; and WHEREAS, the City Council strengthened this stand when it voted to reaffirm the City of Alameda's commitment as a Sanctuary City to the values of dignity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals, regardless of ethnic or national origin, gender, race, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, or immigration status; and WHEREAS, education, compassion, and cooperation are key to understanding and embracing differences between people; and WHEREAS, sponsoring a United Against Hate Week is an important step in bridging divisions and healing communities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Alameda, that Alameda stands together with other Bay Area Communities and hereby declares the week of November 11-18 2018, as United Against Hate Week in Alameda. ****** I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 7th day of November 2018, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Ezzy Ashcraft, Matarrese, Oddie, Vella and .
