DECLARING CANVASS OF RETURNS AND RESULTS OF SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2019
WHEREAS, a special Municipal Election, under and pursuant to the
provisions of Article XIX of the Charter of said City, was held for the purpose of
submitting to the qualified electors of the City of Alameda certain proposals, as set
forth hereafter:
MEASURE A
Proposed Ballot Measure of the City of Alameda: Shall
an ordinance confirming the City Council's actions to permit reuse
of vacant federal buildings on a 3.65-acre parcel on McKay
Avenue and allow for the development of a wellness center for
senior assisted living and supportive services for homeless
individuals by changing the General Plan designation from
"Federal Facilities" to "Office," removing the Government
Combining District classification and maintaining the existing
zoning district designation, be adopted?
MEASURE B
Shall the initiative to change the land use and zoning
designations for a 3.65-acre parcel on McKay Avenue, from
Office/Administrative-Professional to Open Space, which prohibits
the conversion of vacant federal buildings into a senior assisted
living facility, medical clinic and supportive services for homeless
individuals, and limits the use of the property to parks and related
uses, be adopted?
WHEREAS, notice of the election was given in the time, form and manner as
provided by law; that voting precincts were properly established; that election
officers were appointed and that in all respects the election was held and conducted
and the votes were cast, received and canvassed and the returns made and
declared in the time, form and manner as required by the provisions of the City
Charter; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk has received the canvass of returns of the election
and has certified the results to the City Council, the results are received, attached
and made a part hereof, as "Exhibit A."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND DECLARED
BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA and said Council finds, as follows:
(1) That said Consolidated General Municipal Election was held and
conducted, and the votes cast thereat received and canvassed, and the returns
thereof ascertained, determined and declared in all respects and particulars in the
time, form and manner provided by law.
(2) That the whole number of ballots cast in the City of Alameda at said
election was 21,741 and the total number of registered voters at said election was
48,793.
(3) That the total number of votes cast in the City of Alameda at said election
for the aforesaid Measure A was as follows:
Measure A Yes 11,341 No 10,193
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND DECLARED that the aforementioned
Measure A, having received a majority of the number of yes votes cast was and is
declared passed; and
(4) That the total number of votes cast in the City of Alameda at said election
for the aforesaid Measure B was as follows:
Measure B Yes 9,400 No 11,922
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND DECLARED that the aforementioned
Measure B, not having received a majority of the number of yes votes cast was and
is declared not passed.
