MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY- -DECEMBER 15, 2020- -7:00 P.M.
Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft convened the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL - Present: Councilmembers Daysog, Knox White, Oddie, Vella,
and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft – 5. [Note: The meeting
was conducted via Zoom.]
Absent: None.
RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDING SERVICE AND FAREWELL COMMENTS
(20-777) Resolution No. 15731, “Commending Jim Oddie for Six Years of Service to the
City of Alameda Councilmember.” Adopted.
Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft read the resolution.
Expressed appreciation for Councilmember Oddie : Catherine Pauling, Alameda; Toni
Grimm, Alameda; Cheri Johansen, Alameda Progressives; Zac Bowling, Alameda; Ruth
Abbe, Alameda; Assemblymember Rob Bonta.
Councilmember Vella moved adoption of the resolution.
Vice Mayor Knox White seconded the motion.
Under discussion, Councilmember Vella, Councilmember Daysog, Vice Mayor Knox
White, and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft made brief comments.
Councilmember Oddie made brief comments.
On the call for the question, the motion carried by the following roll call vote:
Councilmembers Daysog: Aye; Knox White: Aye; Oddie: Aye; Vella: Aye; and Mayor
Ezzy Ashcraft: Aye. Ayes: 5.

Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft called a recess at 7:44 p.m. and reconvened the meeting at 8:00
p.m.

INSTALLATION
(20-778) The Honorable Judge Delbert Gee administered the Oath of Office to
Councilmember Malia Vella and the Honorable Judge C. Richard Bartalini administered
the Oath of Office to Councilmember Spencer; and the City Clerk administered the Oath
of Office to City Auditor Kevin Kearney and City Auditor Kevin Kennedy.

CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTMENT OF VICE MAYOR
(20-779) Councilmember Knox White moved approval of appointing Malia Vella as Vice
Mayor.
Councilmember Daysog seconded the motion, which carried by the following roll call
vote: Councilmembers Daysog: Aye; Knox White: Aye; Oddie: Aye; Vella: Aye; and
Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft: Aye. Ayes: 5.
COMMENTS BY NEW COUNCIL
(20-780) City Treasurer Kevin Kennedy, City Auditor Kevin Kearney, Councilmember
Spencer and Vice Mayor Vella made brief comments.

COUNCIL COMMUNICATIONS
(20-781) Councilmember Daysog congratulated Vice Mayor Vella, Councilmember
Spencer, Auditor Kearney and Treasurer Kennedy; encouraged residents to hang in
during the next few months.
(20-782) Councilmember Knox White stated that he looks forward to continuing to work
with Vice Mayor Vella and working with Councilmember Spencer.
(20-783) Councilmember Spencer stated that she looks forward to working with the
Councilmembers.
(20-784) Vice Mayor Vella stated that she will be attending the Stopwaste meetin g
tomorrow; congratulated Councilmember Spencer and stated she looks forward to
working with the Councilmembers.
(20-785) Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft stated that she looks forward to working with the
Councilmembers; discussed COVID 19 pandemic and vaccine; encouraged everyone to
get vaccinated; expressed her appreciation.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft adjourned the meeting at 8:35
p.m.
