Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft convened the meeting at 5:14 p.m. Roll Call – Present: Councilmembers Daysog, Herrera Spencer, Knox White, Vella and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft – 5. [Note: Vice Mayor Vella arrived at 5:27 p.m. The meeting was held via Zoom.] Absent: None. Public Comment Cindy Houts, Alameda Food Bank, discussed her experience at the Alameda Food Bank; stated the number of new Food Bank clients is growing fast; the Food Bank serves roughly 10% of the island population; expressed concern over the condition of the building; discussed the Food Bank self-funding a new location; urged Council action be taken. Consent Calendar Councilmember Knox White moved approval of the Consent Calendar. Councilmember Daysog seconded, which carried by the following roll call vote: Councilmembers Daysog: Aye; Herrera Spencer: No; Knox White: Aye; Vella: Absent; and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft: Aye. Accepted. (22-685) Conference with Real Property Negotiators (Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.8); Property: 2440 Monarch Street, Suite 100, (Building 43) Alameda Point, Alameda, CA; City Negotiators: Interim City Manager Nancy Bronstein, Community Development Director Lisa Maxwell, Assistant Community Development Director Nanette Mocanu, and Assistant City Attorney Len Aslanian; Negotiating Parties: City of Alameda and Steeltown Winery, Inc.; Under Negotiation: Price and Terms of Lease Following the Closed Session, the meeting was reconvened and the City Clerk announced that regarding the Workers’ Compensation Claim, the case involves five workers’ compensation claims filed by a former employee of the Fire Department; during his nearly 30 years of service with the City of Alameda, Applicant suffered multiple injuries, including those to his knees, hips, hearing, hernia and back, as a result of his work duties; he retired August 1, 2020; the Council authorized the City Attorney to settle all five pending workers’ compensation claims in an amount not to exceed $210,000 by the following roll call vote: Councilmembers Daysog: Aye; Herrera Spencer: Aye; Knox White: Aye; and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft: Aye; Ayes: 4, [Absent: Vice Mayor Vella – 1]; and regarding the three Steeltown Winery items, staff provided information and Council provided direction by the following roll call vote: Councilmembers Daysog: No; Herrera Spencer: No; Knox White: Aye; Vella: Aye; and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft: Aye; Ayes: 3. Noes: 2.
