ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY RECRUITMENT AND HIRING
INCENTIVE POLICY OF $75,000 FOR LATERAL, ACADEMY
GRADUATE AND ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICERS THROUGH
USE OF EXISTING SALARY SAVINGS
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda (City) continues to struggle to fill Police Officer
positions with qualified candidates; and
WHEREAS, the City will temporarily suspend the current Recruitment and Hiring
Incentive Policy for Lateral Police Officers previously adopted in 2019 as Resolution No.
15617; and
WHEREAS, in order to recruit qualified Police Officers candidates, the City has
developed a temporary recruitment and incentive policy that will temporarily override
the current Recruitment and Hiring Incentive Policy for Lateral Police Officers until the
Alameda Police Department reaches full authorized sworn staffing of 88.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City that said
Council temporarily suspends the current Recruitment and Hiring Incentive Policy for
Lateral Police Officers until the Alameda Police Department reaches full sworn staffing
of 88 officers, and approves a temporary Recruitment and Incentive Policy for Lateral
Police Officers.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular
meeting assembled on the 21st day of March 2023, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, Herrera Spencer, Jensen, Vella
and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
